J.J. Abrams said that Star Wars: the Force Awakens would have a lot of practical effects, a reflection on the feedback on fan criticisms on the artificial, clean, plastic universe of the prequels. However the film does feature a lot of CGI shots blended with practical sets, props and puppets.
Even the two CGI motion capture characters, Maz Kanata and Supreme Leader Snoke are miles better than Jar Jar Binks in the Phantom Menace. It is a treat to see Andy Serkis and Lupita Nyong’o perform their roles behind the scenes.
Warning the ten minute film has spoilers galore.
