Around this time of year, the glorious sight of a fashion magazines September Issue arrives on shelves, but why are they so widely publicised? Should you buy ALL the mags? Relax, we’ve got you covered.
Ok, let’s debunk this. First off, the September issue of any fashion publication is basically the start of the industry’s calendar. September sets the tone and it lets everyone know what to expect in the year ahead as regards trends etc.. It’s the biggest issue for those in the business and the most prepared for. The September issue is always worth buying and you can be certain there’ll be an A-list celebrity on the cover with an interview actually worth a read. Sounds good, right?
2016’s issues are here and you should prepare to be excited, though the American editions are still enormously expensive this side of the world, but ya know, worth it. Check out their iPad/online version to be extra savvy.
Cara Delevingne usually gets a nod across one Vogue September cover and this year, she graces the front of British Vogue for the fifth time, photographed by Mario Testino, AND the US edition of Elle talking about everything from Suicide Squad (read the Union Times review here) to living with depression in the modelling world and her sexuality. Exciting times for the UK version of Elle which has undergone a revamp as the magazine will take on a new direction. For this September they’ve released five covers of the publication; Zayn Malik and Kristen Stewart are just two of the stars. There’s a lot of talk about Teen Vogue lately and for this famous issue, Tavi Gevinson talked to Grace Coddington about her life as an actress, singer and blogger. Glamour has the most coveted model of the moment on their US cover. It’s none other than Bella Hadid while Chloe Grace Moretz went on the UK edition of the glossy mag. Oscar winning actress Alicia Vikander covers Vanity Fair where she chats about her continued success in acting and the love of her life, (and ours tbh) Michael Fassbender. Sarah Jessica Parker stars on the front page for Marie Claire US where she declares she’s not a feminist, she just believes in equality. The UK edition of Marie Claire has cast the ever funny Pitch Perfect actress, Anna Kendrick. Of course, you couldn’t have a September issue nowadays without Kimye aka Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Karl Lagerfeld shot, and Carine Roitfeld styled, their cover for Harper’s Bazaar US in which they talked.. and talked about themselves. Only the best for Kimye though, are we right? Finally, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley decorated the front cover of Harper’s Bazaar UK divulging all things beauty, modelling and her engagement to Jason Statham. Keep an eye out on our Twitter account for US Vogue’s cover star which has yet to be released!
It’s no secret that magazine sales aren’t exactly sky-rocketing these past few years due to social media and the availability of online content but with a celeb. star on their front page, you can be sure and certain it’ll always boost their name. Like Anna Wintour said, celebrity sells and the September issue will always hold a place in a fashionista’s heart.
So, we ask, do you still religiously pick up the September issue? Or do you find you only pick a magazine up when a famous face is sitting on the shelf? Let us know!
