A policeman has been shot dead near the beach resort of Sousse, by two attackers on a motorbike.
The attackers opened fire on three policemen in the coastal city on Wednesday. Despite earlier reports, only one of the officers was hit.
The interior ministry have said that police are searching for the gunmen.
In a statement they said “Three policemen were the target of gunshots fired by two men on a big motorcycle,”
“One of them died during transport to the hospital, the other two were not affected,”
In June of this year, 38 people were killed by a gunman on a beach at the Mediterranean resort of Port El Kantaoui, for which the Islamic State group claimed responsibility.
Even though Tunisia has made one of the smoother transitions from autocracy to democracy after the Arab Spring uprisings in 2011, they have had to deal with a growing militant threat over recent years.
