The mural is about empathy and human connection. A woman gets a tourist photo while ignoring a homeless man right next to her.
The mural was created by artist Dallas Clayton on Sunset Boulevard in LA. He asks people to ‘stand here and think about someone you love’.
Rich Michalowski, took several pictures of the two women sharing on Facebook with the comment ‘Really?’
‘The photographer was directing the woman on where to stand, how to pose and suggested she take off her jacket,’ he told website TakePart. ‘At one point the photographer directed her to move closer to the homeless man so she could center the photo. They were still at it when I drove away.’
The image has sparked a furious reaction online.
‘There’s a certain amount of irony involved in posing for a warm fuzzy picture while trying not to stand on a homeless man’s head,’ commented one person.
One man wrote: ‘I was homeless once for a year and even though I was altruistic to the homeless before it happened to me, it made me exponentially angered with the criminalization of the homeless and I would seriously go off on these people.’
