13 years after the release of the original version of ‘Where is the love’, Will I Am and the members of the Black Eyed Peas are getting together again to bring their breakout hit back to life as an anthem against hatred.
When it first came out in 2003, the song deeply impacted a world still bouncing back from the atrocities of 9/11, but it feels even more powerful today as the entire world succumbs to violence. Released as ‘WHEREISTHELOVE ft The World’, the version has now been updated with the vocals of many celebrities including singers such as Mary J Blige, Justin Timberlake, Puff Daddy, Nicole Scherzinger or Jessie J as well as a 40-members children choir. Despite the track being clearly recognisable, powerful new lyrics have been added linking back to some of the main deadly events that have happened over the past year, with words that are just as crude as there are true.
The message of ‘love transcends hate’ is made even more striking by the video itself as the faces of the family members of gun attacks’ victims appear, along with some of the pictures and videos that sadly went viral, including those of Syrian children victims of one of this decade’s biggest conflict.
Following the bombings in several European capitals, the Middle Eastern crisis or the racial attacks in the USA, Will I Am had expressed at several occasions wanting to answer to those asking for love and inspiration. He did so this week in both a deeply touching and financial way as all the proceeds from the sales will support several charities around the world.
