Strangest punishment ever? This software pirate will be fined if his Youtube video doesn’t reach over 200,000 views

This Czech man is convicted for software piracy and will have to pay a large amount of damages. That is if his film ‘Sharing it started, it may end up sharing [official spot]’  reaches over 200,000 views in a set amount of time.

The 30-year-old Jakub F was given a three-year suspended sentence for software piracy.

The court decided that any financial terms would have to be decided in civil proceedings or out of court.

He then reached the unusual out-of-court settlement with the firms involved.

Microsoft, HBO Europe, Sony Music and Twentieth Century Fox all agreed that they would not sue should the video get 200,000 views, despite financial damages in the case equating to thousands of pounds.

Microsoft valued losses at £148,000 after Jakub released copies of Windows 7 and 8 operating systems on filesharing websites.
