Idris Elba becomes the first ever male to appear solo on the cover of the US magazine – Maxim.
Doesn’t matter how warm the weather might be this summer, it doesn’t affect the actor as he is wearing a black leopard print funnel coat on the cover shoot of Maxim.
Elba, 42, is the face of Maxim’s September fashion issue.
Kate Lanphear, Maxim’s editor-in-chief informed Racked: “We’ve never in U.S. Maxim history had a man on the cover solo. This is the very first time, and there was no one else in the world more bad-ass than Idris.”
“For me, he was really the perfect embodiment of what I think the new Maximman is. He’s multi-dimensional, he’s complex, he’s sophisticated, but he’s down to earth.” Kate added.
The American audience began recognition of Idris Elba first from the acclaimed Television series The Wire, where he plays the character of Stringer Bell. Recently, he portrayed Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, earning himself a Golden Globe nomination.
In terms of upcoming projects, things are looking good for the British actor. Netflix’s highly anticipated war drama Beasts of No Nation will see Elba play a completely different role than any other he has ever played on-screen. He is also set to star in the next installment of Star Trek. While, in terms of television, many fans are eagerly awaiting the fourth season of Luther in which Elba plays a troubled, yet brilliant detective DCI John Luther.
If being an actor and a model wasn’t enough, he’s also a hip-hop producer and a DJ, as well as his own clothing line set to come out very soon.
Talking about his recent ‘Bond’ rumours, the actor explained: “If I were the Bond producers and everyone was pointing me toward one actor, what’s the surprise in that? Honestly, it’s one of those things that if it should happen, it would be a self-fulfilling prophecy; it would be the will of a nation.”
