Reports have circulated that the British comedian Ricky Gervais is set to make a comeback as David Brent in The Office movie.
Unfortunately, this project will not unite the comedian with Stephen Merchant- one of the main creators and writers of both the UK and US versions of the cult mockumentary hit series that ran its course with the 9th season of the US version ending in 2013.
The pair collaborated on the original TV series, which aired from 2001-2003. Merchant has been reported to be not involved for the much-anticipated movie – Life On The Road – as it has been titled.
A source close to the film informed The Sun, ”Ricky has every right to do a David Brent movie on his own but fans will understandably be gutted to have it confirmed that Stephen is not involved at all. Together they created one of the all-time classic TV shows with ‘The Office’, and all their projects as a team have been so well received.”
It has been reported that the movie will not bring back several actors from the original show including Mackenzie Crook and Martin Freeman.
Furthermore, Ricky Gervais recently shed light on the basic plotline of the film revealing that the film will delve mainly into the private life of the show’s central character – David Brent.
He stated, ”I’m so excited that the world will see what David Brent is up to now and where his future lies. This film delves much more into his private life than ‘The Office’ ever did, and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man.”
The film has been scheduled to release next August in 2016.
