A passenger ship carrying migrants from Syria has set sail from the Greek island of Kos, heading towards the Greek mainland on Wednesday. The coastguard said that the ship was heading towards Thessaloniki, which is Greece’s second largest city.
The Greek government has appealed to the EU for help in dealing with the refugees arriving on their shores, last week alone over 21,000 arrived escaping war and hardship.
With the situation being so desperate, the government decided to move some of the refugees north to try and ease pressure on the island.
While there are migrants from Asia, Africa and the Middle East, those from Syria were given priority because of the civil war there.
