When you take a niche comic book character like Deadpool, make a film about him and give him the hard-R rating he was meant for, and that film then goes on to become a bigger box office success than a film called ‘Batman v. Superman’, you know you’ve just made the opening serve of a whole different ballgame. Now wise to the immense profitability of adult-only audiences for the typically-PG superhero genre, 20th Century Fox has officially confirmed the rumours that the upcoming ‘Wolverine 3’ will afford Hugh Jackman’s last hurrah as the iconic mutant an equally-deserving ‘R’ rating.
“It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie”, said the long-running X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg to Collider. “It’s violent. It’s kinda like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film”. Though the story, and even the official title, have yet to be confirmed, it is being strongly speculated that the film will be an adaptation of ‘Old Man Logan’, set in the future where the now-aged ex-X-Man is the last surviving superhero in a dystopian world, a dark, bitter and blood-soaked storyline.
