The prestigious Olivier Awards ceremony is set to take place on Sunday 3rd April 2016 at the Royal Opera House and yesterday we discovered which shows are set to make their appearance on the night. It’s traditional that from among the nominees the audience are shown glimpses of the musicals who have their collective eyes on the prize. It not only creates an additional buzz to an electric atmosphere but also showcases the best that the West End has to offer where musicals are concerned.
Announced for this year are: Gypsy, Kinky Boots, In The Heights, Bend It Like Beckham, Mrs Henderson Presents, Bugsy Malone, Guys and Dolls and Seven Brides for Severn Brothers. For shows such as Guys and Dolls which is set to go on UK tour, this is a great advert for potential audience members. It is anticipated that we will also be treated to excerpts from Imelda Staunton in Gypsy and Tracie Bennett in Mrs Henderson Presents, both of whom are hot contenders for the Best Actress in A Musical award.
With so many fantastic shows, plays and performers making it to the nominees list this year, this looks set to be the best Olivier Awards ceremony yet.
