Gwen Stefani files for divorce from her British husband, Gavin Rossdale, after nearly 13 years of marriage, due to irreconcilable differences.
The two musicians met in 1995, when No Doubt opened for Bush during their headline tour in support of album Sixteen Stone.
Stefani married the Bush singer at a church in London’s Covent Garden in September 2002 and since then have had three sons together.
The couple have agreed on joint custody of their kids, Kingston aged 9, Zuma aged 6 and Apollo born last February.
They have expressed their commitment to raising their children together stating: “While the two of us have come to the mutual decision that we will no longer be partners in marriage, we remain partners in parenthood and are committed to jointly raising our three sons in a happy and healthy environment. To that end, we respectfully request privacy from the media during this time.”
Currently a coach on The Voice USA, Stefani previously worked with her husband on the show, however she admitted how it was “awkward” as “we’ve only collaborated on making babies.”
As well as a successful singing career, Stefani designed and launched her own fashion label L.A.M.B. in 2003.
Stefani has described the pressures of being a couple in the public eye. She tells Cosmopolitan: “We go through so much together – it’s a miracle that we could stay together this long.”
She adds, how Gavin’s “on a short tour right now, and he wrote me the sweetest note this morning. It’s good to have those days when we both do our own things. I think that’s what keeps relationships going, when both people can be themselves and have their own individuality. That’s especially important for women. It’s hard to find time for yourself.”
Gavin praised the longevity of his relationship with Stefani last year, telling E!: “To be with one person for a very long time actually gets more interesting. I’m into that. She’s a great girl. I’m lucky.”
Stefani and Rossdale are known as the most enduring couple of the music industry due to the scrutiny faced by the media. Particularly after Rossdale’s accusations of infidelity and DNA results in 2004 that proved Rossdale had fathered a child with Pearl Lowe 14 years earlier.
Both have had successful careers as Stefani has a reported $80 million fortune from The Voice USA and Rossdale has his own success within his band worth an estimated $35 million.
The couple confirmed their decision to divorce and seek joint custody of their kids via Access Hollywood. TMZ reports the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement, therefore their combined wealth would be split 50/50 under California law.
