In a campaign for Harvey Nichols, the first ever 100 year old model, Bo Gilbert as she’s known, has graced the pages of Vogue for it’s centenary celebrations.
Ageism is slowly but surely becoming a thing of the past. What better way to show that off than in a high profile fashion campaign? Harvey Nichols discovered Majorie Gilbert aka Bo, through a casting agency although the woman has never modelled in her life. Bo has always been a fashion enthusiast and enjoyed clothing; “I dress for myself, I never dress up for boys.” A lady, if ever there was one. Coinciding with British Vogues centenary celebration, the campaign is an exclusive for the magazines May issue.
With a style icon in Audrey Hepburn, Bo has cherished the past decades we all know and aspire to recreate. She said Audrey ”showed herself off beautifully” and admired her style. Like a true lady, Bo believes it’s imperative that one ”keeps standards up”. In the Harvey Nichols campaign video, it highlights the differences in modelling as it is today. For example, the average age of a model etc. Bo has certainly witnessed many a change within fashion throughout her lifetime. ”I remember the first time I saw a lady in a trouser suit, I’d never seen anything like that before it really caught my eye” she recalls. Ms Gilbert continues to have an alluring presence, always applying make-up, wearing heels and ensuring her hair is done. ”Now you never see anyone in a hat,” stating that the so called fashionistas of today don’t have that same wow factor.
In the main campaign shot Bo wears a bright fuchsia coat by Dries van Noten, a Victoria Beckham black top, tailored trousers by The Row and shoes by Celine. Finishing off the outfit with a Lanvin necklace and bespoke Valentino glasses. To use the word ‘goals’ would most definitely be an understatement.
Perhaps the next fashion campaign we see of the model will be on British Vogues front cover. Watch this space!
British Vogue in which Bo stars will hit shelves on May 5th.
