Man murdered by stranded driver he was trying to help

27-year-old Jefferson Heavner a good Samaritan, who tried to help a driver who was stranded was shot and killed by the stranded motorist in Bandys community, Catawba County at around 5.20 p.m.

Heavner and other passers by called the police when the motorist, Marvin Lee Jacob  pulled out a gun. He started becoming aggressive and shot Heavner ‘numerous times’.

Catawba County Sheriff Roy Reid told the Charlotte Observer: ‘They thought he was drunk and said “let’s just call the law and let them deal with it.’”

Lee refused to get out of his car when police arrived, so a SWAT team was called in to assist with his arrest, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Lee was taken into custody at Catawba County Jail and has been charged with murder.
