A bus driver in Vellore, India may have became the first man to die from a meteorite in almost 200 years.
The man was working at a engineering college campus, standing on the lawn when the meteorite fell from the sky and hit him on the head. The man died on the way to hospital.
The impact injured three people and broke surrounding windows.
NASA scientists in the United States said in a public statement that the photographs posted online were more consistent with “a land based explosion” than with something from space.
Lindley Johnson, NASA’s planetary defense officer, said “There have been reports of injuries, but even those were extremely rare before the Chelyabinsk event three years ago,” he said, referring to a 2013 episode in Russia.
