Devon Staples, aged 22, died after setting off a firework from the top of his head marking the first reported death in Maine since their 2012 legislation.
The fourth of July celebrations ended tragically for Staples and his friends in Maine as he died instantly from the firework’s reloaded motor tube he set off on his head, causing a fatal head injury.
It has been reported Devon Staples had consumed a lot of alcohol and his friends believed they had convinced him not to commit such a lethal act.
A spokesman states: ““When he suggested he was going to do this, his friends gathered around him and they thought they had convinced him not to do it.”
However brother of the victim, Cody Staples, refuses these assumptions and projects his brother’s lack of stupidity claiming it was a “freak accident”.
He tells New York Daily News, “it was a freak accident. Devon was not the kind of person who would do something stupid. He was the kind of person who would pretend to do something stupid to make people laugh.”
Other minor injuries occurred during the celebrations as fire marshals investigate and report accidents involving fireworks in the Friendship, Jefferson, Lebanon and Woodstock areas. Most claim to be minor eye injuries and burns.
