Anneli-Marie R, 17, was abducted whilst walking her dog on Thursday in the city of Meissen, Germany, her body has now been found in an abandoned farmyard.
The young daughter of a wealthy German businessman (whose last name has not been released for privacy reasons) was last seen when she left her parent’s home in Maissen, Saxony at 7.30pm on Thursday (August 13).
According to German newspaper, Sächsische Zeitung, whilst searching for Anneli, the police managed to locate her pet dog, but failed to find any trace of her after searching the nearby area with a sniffer dog.
On Monday night a body was found in a an abandoned farmyard not far from Anneli’s home, with a police spokesman explaining to the US broadcaster NBC news “The circumstances point to the fact that this could be the kidnapped woman, but final confirmation is still outstanding”. The police used both sniffer dogs and heat-seeking helicopters to locate the body.
Police spokesman Thomas Knaup has said that the police “are working on the assumption it is Anneli”.
Two men have been arrested (one in Dresden and the other in a town in Bavaria). Both men were captured in raids that took place on Tuesday (August 18) morning. According to media reports one of the men was 39 and without a job whilst the other was a 61-year-old metalworker.
Officers have since revealed that the captors attempted to call her father on the day she was kidnapped, he was unable to answer immediately but phoned back in less than a minute, and screams could be heard as the demand was made.
Dresden police chief Dieter Kroll said “In this telephone conversation, one of the perpetrators said Anneli was kidnapped by them and that he demanded a €1.2m ransom.
“In the background, one could hear screams and this is presumably the last sign of life of Anneli and the telephone conversation, which was very short, was then finished and interrupted.”
Previous to Anneli’s body being found, her parents had received a ransom note; responding by writing an open letter, the distraught parents pledged to pay the ransom “Anneli, we miss you, we are with you…. The kidnappers should know that we will fulfill their demands in order to be able to take our child in our arms again soon.”
Authorities believe that Anneli was killed because her captors were not masked and she would have been able to identify them. At this moment in time authorities have said there is no indication that she was objected to any form of sexual assault throughout her ordeal.
“All of our hopes and prayers were not answered,” Dieter Kroll said of the awful outcome.
The heartbroken parents are now in the care of police psychologists.
