American actor and rapper Jaden Smith is the new face of the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2016 Womenswear collection.
Following in the footsteps of his sister Willow, who starred in a Marc Jacobs campaign, the 17-year-old son of actors Will and Jada Pinkett Smith has always been notable for his gender-neutral style.
Last year, he uploaded on Instagram a photo of himself wearing a dress with the caption ‘Went To TopShop To Buy Some Girl Clothes, I Mean “Clothes”‘, and he attended his prom wearing a white skirt.
Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière explained that: ‘He represents a generation that assimilated the codes of true freedom, one that is free of manifestos and questions about gender. Wearing a skirt comes as naturally to him as it would to a woman who, long ago, granted herself permission to wear a man’s trench or a tuxedo. Jaden Smith conveys something very interesting about the integration of a global wardrobe. He’s found an instinctive balance that makes his extraordinary attitude a new norm. That really inspired me in the creative process for this collection.’
Smith commented on Instagram: ‘Thank You So Much For The Opportunity To Impact This World’, fronting the campaign wearing a fringed top and a skirt.
With his unique style and attitude, this certainly is just the beginning for him in the fashion industry.
