The Israeli military has carried out a rocket attack on the Gaza strip last night. The attack came in retaliation for a rocket fired at Southern Israel earlier this month.
The rocket was aimed at a Hamas weapons factory in the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli army. No casualties have been confirmed, however four security guards are said to have been wounded. In the strike from Palestine against Israel, there were also no casualties or damage reported, as the rocket hit and exploded in an open field.
Israel have said that they hold Hamas directly responsible for any attacks that come from the Gaza strip, which is currently home to 1.8 million Palestinians. Spokesman LT. Col. Peter Lerner said today that “the Hamas terror organization is responsible for today’s attack against Israel”, adding that the Israeli army would “not tolerate any attempt to undermine the security of Southern Israel.”
Last summer, the 50-day war between Gaza and Israel ended in a ceasefire brokered by Egypt. In that short time, 2,200 Palestinians, mainly civilians, were killed. In Israel, 73 Israelis, mainly soldiers, were casualties of the war.
Israel have said that since the beginning of this month, eight rockets have been fired from Gaza, undermining the cease-fire.
