The news broke last week that Daniel Craig was leaving the world of Bond, after 4 movies (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre) portraying the eponymous British Superspy of iconic killing and cool. Since before the news broke, there has been some buzz surrounding Craig’s successor when the inevitable (and suspected occurrence after Spectre) stepdown would happen. Yet within the past week, amid those discussions, speculations and even an odd and certainly left field contender throwing her (yes, HER) hat into the ring – Gillian Anderson of The X Files fame wishing to put herself forward as a potential 007 – it seems that perhaps a new James Bond may have been settled on now.
News has emerged within the last several hours that Tom Hiddleston is in fact in talks with the movie franchise’s producers to assume the role of the MI6 Agent, seemingly beating other favourites like Idris Elba and Tom Hardy. The British star has come on leaps and bounds within the last several years and it is in fact a bold choice, as Hiddleston has quite a full acting roster on his hands anyway. As a recurring villain, Loki, in Marvel movies for the foreseeable future, switching a comic book costume for a tux will definitely be a stretch, even for his talent. Although Hiddleston does have some experience of conveying the murky world of political and military intrigue on screen. His turn in the adaptation of John Le Carre’s The Night Manager was a hit for the BBC. Which also proved (alongside High Rise, released earlier this year) his willingness to bare all and get a little steamy. So this CV clearly makes him a worthy candidate to get Bond fans shaken and stirred!
