The head girl of one Sydney’s most elite private schools, Ravenswood School for Girls went rogue in her speech which criticises the institution.
In her candid speech which was uploaded to the Youtube channel ‘Ravo Captain‘, Sarah Haynes, 18, calls out the $28,600 AUD-a-year Ravenswood School for Girls, Sydney for being too ‘financially motivated’ and focused on its image.
‘I don’t know how to run a school, but it seems to me that today’s schools are being run more and more like businesses where everything becomes financially motivated, where more value is placed on those who provide good publicity or financial benefits,’ she said.
‘Perhaps this has become a necessary evil in today’s society, but either way I would love to see Ravo work towards something better, where each member of the school feels valued equally – as they should be.’
Worried that teachers would censor her speeches, as they demanded a draft before hand, Miss Haynes submitted a decoy copy. She said that she was tasked to ‘sell’ the school and was told that ‘no parent wants to hear that a school isn’t perfect’.
