Morrissey returned on English soil last Saturday for hometown gig

If you knew me you would know that I enormously admire Morrissey and The Smiths. He is to me one of the best lyricists England has ever offered and his poignant and honest lyric style was in the background of many of my tough and happy times, the moments we all encounter in life, them being heartbreak, the loss of someone, love and so on and so forth. So it is no wonder that when I found out the icon was performing in his hometown of Manchester I was one of them making sure to grab a couple of tickets not to miss the show.

‘I left the South, I travelled North’ he once said in one of his songs and this is what I did last Saturday when I left the capital and made my way up North.

For most fans and followers of the artist, the excitement was clearly there. Last Saturday was probably the most political show I ever watched: from a meat-free venue to projections of animal slaughter footage and royal family pictures with the words ‘United –King-dumb’, the singer wanted to convey a clear message to the crowd and disdain towards the way England is run.
