Mariah Carey is set to star in an eight part documentary series as she begins her tour and plans her upcoming wedding to billionaire fiancé, James Packer.
If you’ve ever seen Mariah Carey star in MTV’s ‘Cribs’ show back in 2002, you’ll know to expect more antics from the iconic singer. Apart from appearing in The Late Late Show with James Corden’s ‘Carpool Karaoke’, it’s been 14 years since she was documented for TV but ”I refuse to call it a reality show” she states of her new venture with E! Entertainment. Renowned for being somewhat of a diva, Mariah claims she owes this (Mariah’s World) to the fans.
“I’m not Cinderella, my life has not been a fairy tale. Forget the image, forget the rumours. I owe this to the fans.”
Mariah, who says she’s ”just like anyone else”, has already launched her tour ‘The Sweet Sweet Fantasy’ across Europe and South Africa and the series is expected to be following her across the continents as she prepares behind the scenes and hits the stage. In the trailer, featured below, we see the star in tour rehearsals and in conversation with reporters with a very Mariah moment where she explains her refusal to take off her designer sunglasses; “I’m wearing these glasses because we’re in fluorescent lighting, and I have a rule which states that I will not be seen in fluorescent lighting without sunglasses. I know, it’s very ’90s.” Adding to the diva persona of the Las Vegas resident, she also doesn’t speak the entire day before a performance on stage. Jeff Olde, E!’s executive vice president for program development said “She knows exactly what she wants but she has to communicate through writing or sign language, and it’s sort of a joke within her group, because she has to preserve her voice.”
Back in January of this year it was also announced, with a gigantic 35 carat diamond ring to prove it, that the ‘Heroes’ singer had gotten engaged to Australian billionaire businessman, James Packer. As the pair plan their impending nuptials and expected extravagant wedding party, E! Online will be capturing all the details along the way of Mariah’s “most important event that’s ever happened.”
‘Mariah’s World’ will consist of eight one-hour long episodes and will première on E! later this year. No date is yet known. Catch the official trailer below.
