Dolce & Gabbana is launching a collection of hijabs and abayas. This is the brand’s first attempt in producing religious clothing, and it’s certainly very different from its classic form-fitting dresses.
The collection, revealed on Style.com, Arabia and on Instagram by Stefano Gabbana, is composed of pieces which are a perfect mix between modest, elegant and of course D&G’s signature Italian/Sicilian style. The collection includes fine fabrics like sheer georgette, lace, satin, black and neutral hues, and prints with flowers, lemons and polka dots. According to the site, this collection ‘celebrates the inimitable dolce vita that is distinct to us in the Arab world.’
It’s not the first time that designers have created lines especially for the Muslim customers.
DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger, Net-A-Porter, Mango and Zara are just a few brands that have reviously made special capsule collections. Mariah Idrissi was the first hijab-wearing model to front an H&M ad campaign.
We predict that many other designers will follow suit, since it has been reported that there’s a growing demand for luxury designer fashion in the Arab market.
