Demonstrators in Turkey clash with police

Police fired tear-gas and water cannons at hundreds of protesters in Taksim Square following the death of 31 people in a bomb attack in the border town of Suruc.

As protesters blamed the government for a suspected Islamic State suicide bombing, some activists chanted slogans against President Tayyip Erdogan and the ruling AK Party, including: ‘Murderer’ and ‘Islamic State collaborator’.

The demonstrations came after funerals were held for the 31 victims of the bomb attack in southern Turkey, which also left 100 people injured.

Most of the victims were Kurdish students who were rallying in support for the displaced residents of Kobane outside a cultural centre in Suruc.
