David Bowie has died of cancer at 69

Music legend David Bowie has died at the age of 69 from cancer.

His son, Duncan Jones, confirmed the news on his social media accounts.

“David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer,” it said.

“While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”



Duncan added on his personal twitter. “Very sorry and sad to say it’s true. I’ll be offline for a while. Love to all.”

David Bowie was born David Jones in Brixton, south London, on 8 January in 1947. He changed his name in 1966.

Bowie was in several bands before he signed with Mercury Records. They released his album Space Oddity in 1969, with the title track becoming his first UK number one.

His breakthrough then came with 1972’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars.

His career spanned six decades.

Bowie’s hits include Let’s Dance, Space Oddity, Starman, Modern Love, Heroes, Under Pressure, Rebel, Rebel and Life on Mars.

He also starred in many movies along with memorable cameo roles such as Nikola Tesla in The Prestige, Jareth the Goblin King in Labyrinth and Andy Warhol in Basquiat.


The Star’s Birthday was only  last Friday. He celebrated his birthday with the release of his last album, Black Star.
