China are building the world’s largest animal cloning factory and it’s set to begin operations in 2016.
The company behind the idea is BoyaLife, whose CEO Xu Xiaochun said “We are going down a path that no one has ever travelled. We are building something that has not existed in the past.”
The project is set to cost a whopping 200 million Yuan (approximately $31 million) and the factory will be located in the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area. This is an area which is sponsored by the government and it’s located around 100 miles from the Capital Beijing.
The factory is hoping to produce around 100,000 cow embryos annually and eventually they plan to take over 5% of the Chinese market for beef according to Mr Xiaochun.
The new facilties main focus on cloning cattle is to feed China’s ever growing population.
