Balenciaga Exhibition Announced By V&A Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum in London has been home to some of the most spectacular fashion exhibitions. For its 2017 programme, a portrayal of Cristóbal Balenciaga's lifelong work will be showcased.



After the huge success of the 'Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty' exhibition (its most visited to date,) it is believed that Balenciaga's showcase will be welcomed with equal admiration and excitement. Though Alexander was British and Cristóbal was Spanish, Balenciaga was around long before McQueen constructing the fabric of modern day fashion values and perhaps, even inspired some of the work we see from today's ateliers. Throughout his lifetime as a designer (he was first a seamstress' son,) Balenciaga was labelled the designer's designer, one of the greats of the 20th century fashion industry and wholly inspirational considering he was self-taught and one of 3 children brought up by a single mother whose husband died early in life. Cristóbal Balenciaga closed his fashion house in 1968 citing ''it's a dog's life.''
