A couple of months ago, we finally found out who is to portray the young Han Solo in a coming stand-alone movie which is yet to be titled. The plot will follow Solo’s life before the 1977 Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope. Alden Ehrenreich will follow in the footsteps of the great Harrison Ford and has a audacious task in carrying on this fan favourite character. Alden, 26, has starred in Beautiful Creatures (2013), had a supporting role in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine (2013) whilst also appearing in a variety of television shows such as: Supernatrual & CSI: Crime investigation. But how much do we really know about the new guy set to take on this iconic character? Well lets find out!
6. RULER OF THE GALAXY
As we all know, the competition to play the young Han Solo was as fierce as ever, luring in some of Hollywood’s up-and-coming heavyweights such as Chris Pratt and Dave Franco, however despite all these noticeable names, our young Alden managed to force his way through thousands of candidates becoming the leader of the pack and securing this prestigious role. In January, we discovered that the field of actors had been cut down to about a dozen names, including Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner etc. So as you can see, its quite the impressive list which means the casting crew must of saw a unique spark in his acting talent to fend off all those impressive actors.
5. ALDEN’S DESTINY
Alden was always destined to be an actor, submerging himself within the arts early on in his education. He began acting at Palisades Elementary school and furthered his studies at Crossroads School in Santa Monica. Furthermore, during the latter part of his education, he attended New York University as an undergraduate studying acting, although with this said, he actually never finished his degree due to the slow rise of his acting career and now he’s going to be playing Han Solo! Praises for the teachers who taught him what he knows now.
4. A LUCKY BAT MITZVAH
This is rather a funny yet odd fact, Steven Spielberg discovered the 13-year-old Alden at a Bat Mitzvah where a funny video that Alden and his friend had created was shown. Sources from the New York Times explained that the story “began in the present and eventually cut to 20 or 30 years later, with Mr. Ehrenreich, in a kimono, screaming to stop a wedding.” With this being shown, Spielberg saw enough of his on-screen presence for him to help connect Alden with a casting director from DreamWorks!
3. NO WEB-SLINGING FOR ALDEN
Despite this instant fame Alden is suddenly getting, it’s wasn’t all easy for our young star. Alden actually auditioned twice for roles in the Spider-Man films, however, both times failing to land the parts he was auditioning for. He auditioned for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man, sadly losing out to Andrew Garfield. And for the movie’s sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Alden tried out for the role of Green Goblin/Harry Osborn, however, the part eventually going to Dane DeHaan. Still, who need spider-man when you can be the coolest guy in the galaxy?
2. ONE WITH THE LADIES
We all know that Han Solo is a guy full of charisma and charm, having the ability to woe any lady if he wanted. So when being cast to play a young Han Solo, these elements of the character need to be seen in full effect and if you were unware, Alden is quite the charmer. In 2013, Alden starred as Ethan Wate in the romantic fantasy Beautiful Creatures. Although the movie wasn’t a box office hit, some of the ‘romantic’ elements that Alden gives in this movie are very convincing which will give him the experience going into this Han Solo movie. In addition to this, Alden also snagged multiple Teen Choice Awards nominations in 2013 for his work in the movie, including Choice Movie Actor and Choice Movie Breakout. So he has a lot on his back coming into this franchise.
1. THIS IS ONLY THE START OF THE JOURNEY
With the success of making the Han Solo cut, doesn’t just stop there. The young actor still has a busy schedule. Ehrenreich wrapped up filming early this year on The Yellow Birds, which stars Jennifer Aniston, Toni Collette, Jason Patric and Tye Sheridan. Other than this, Ehrenreich will also play the lead role in Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply which hits theatres this November. So it’s safe to say he’s going to keep himself busy over the next couple of years and if the Han Solo film becomes a success, well I am sure will be seeing his face a lot more.
The Han Solo film is expected to his theatres in the spring of 2018, making it the 9th film that is associated within the Star Wars universe and I am sure that this young fellow will do us proud and bring the origin of this beloved character to life. If you have any questions about the film/the character or maybe your annoyed that Alden Ehrenreich got the role then let us know what you think and drop a message in the comments box.
