5 ways to shape up for summer

Easter has come and gone, the clocks have come forward and the weather is warming (even just by a few degrees). This amounts to one thing; summer is coming. In the rush up to the summer holiday, everyone does their best to trim up and be fit for the summer months. Being in shape, however, doesn’t have to be some dreaded, last minute attempt. Here are 5 ways to change up your daily routine to help yourself to tone up, ditch those extra pounds and be a happier, healthier you.

Start with a good breakfast

Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so switch up your daily breakfast for something filling and nutritious such as porridge with honey, nuts and dates or smoothie bowls with granola and banana. These meals will keep you fill for longer as well as tasting wonderful.

An apple a day … 

Everyone knows that fruit and veg are as healthy as anything, so take advantage of the wonderful produce at this time of year and buy fruit and vegetables from your local market. Not only will you be supporting local business, but you’ll be helping the environment and getting the freshest, healthiest food possible.

Take up something new

Playing in a sports team is one of the best ways to keep fit. Being surrounded by like minded people, playing a sport you enjoy in a team environment is very rewarding and fun, as well as great exercise. Do something you’ve always been to scared to do.

Get your sweat on

Do like the hippies do, and get your stretch on in a bikram (hot) yoga class. The heightened temperature will allow you to gain the most you can from your workout whilst also being pleasantly warm. Go to a class, imagine that you’re on the beach and chill out to the max.

Get outside

It sounds simple, but being outside really is good for your health. When its warm it’s a lovely idea to go for a park walk or hike with your friends. Fresh air is a nice escape from crazy work deadlines or university dissertation writing, and more importantly, it’s easy and completely free.
