5 Movies To Watch In June

There are so many fabulous movie releases coming in June, it’s difficult to choose between them. Here are my personal picks from among the box office offerings:

Me Before You

UK release date: 3rd June

Young and quirky Louisa “Lou” Clark (Emilia Clarke) moves from one job to the next to help her family make ends meet. Her cheerful attitude is put to the test when she becomes a caregiver for Will Traynor (Sam Claflin), a wealthy young banker left paralyzed from an accident two years earlier.

Opinion: Sounds like a good rom com with a predictable storyline but the lead actors should make a watchable combination. It’s also a different storyline for a romantic comedy which should prove interesting.

The Boss

UK release date: 10th June

Wealthy CEO Michelle Darnell (Melissa McCarthy) always gets her way, until she’s busted for insider trading and sent to federal prison. After leaving jail, Darnell finds herself broke, homeless and hated. Luckily, she tracks down former assistant Claire (Kristen Bell), the only person who’s willing to help. While staying with Claire and her young daughter, the ex-con devises a new business model for a brownie empire. Unfortunately, some old enemies stand in the way of her return to the top.

Opinion: A comedy starring Melissa McCarthy is bound to be a box office hit, Kristen Bell is also hot property and I anticipate good chemistry between McCarthy and Bell. It sounds like it will be a mad cap movie that is laugh out loud funny.

Mother’s Day

UK release date: 17th June

Sandy (Jennifer Aniston) is a stressed-out, single mom who learns that her ex-husband is marrying a younger woman. Her friend Jesse (Kate Hudson) is a fitness freak who doesn’t tell her parents that she has a family. Bradley is a widower (Jason Sudeikis) who’s trying to raise two daughters on his own, while Miranda (Julia Roberts) is too busy with her career to worry about having children. When their respective problems start coming to a head, the Mother’s Day holiday takes on a special meaning.

Opinion: Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Julia Roberts are the key elements here, as a combination, on paper, this should be a winning movie and likely quite a chick flick!

The Conjuring 2

UK release date: 10th June

Paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) Warren travel to London to help a single mother and her four children rid their home of malicious spirits.

Opinion: A much anticipated sequel, which I expect to be a jump out of my seat sort of scary! Hopefully this will be as creepy, thrilling and intriguing as the first. Sequels can be disappointing so fingers crossed!

The Secret Life of Pets

UK release date: 24th June

From the humans behind Despicable Me. Ever wonder what your pets do when you’re not home? Max (voiced by Louis C.K.) is a pampered terrier living the high life with his owner Katie in a swish Manhattan apartment. When their owners are away, Max and his fellow animals love to engage in non-pet behaviour including raiding the fridge for decidedly tastier food. However, his routine is turned upside down when Katie brings back a slobbering mutt named Duke (Eric Stonestreet) from the pound to come and live with them. Nevertheless, these two squabbling pooches must learn to get on when they end up lost in New York. It’s time for an animal posse, led by Pomeranian Gidget (Jenny Slate) to find their friends and save the day.

Opinion: Another hilarious animation that looks set to rival Despicable Me and has some characters which kids and big kids alike will be taking to their heart, I’m sure.
