5 Hacks For Your Beauty Routine

Let’s face it, our beauty routine can be a bit too much at times. Too elaborate, too fussy and too time-consuming. Yes, pampering yourself should be all of these things and more but sometimes it’s fine to take a few short cuts. That’s why hacks are so valuable in the beauty world. They make for a more faster, cheaper and easier routine but without detracting quality. Here at Union Times we’ve come up with a list of our top 5 hacks that will definitely take your beauty routine to James Bond level.

Homemade Lip Scrub

Who doesn’t love a healthy looking lip? Lip scrubs certainly do the trick but with so many to choose from, all of which come with different price tags and flavourings, it’s easy to forget the very purpose of a lip scrub. All you need it to do is exfoliate and cleanse your lips – all of the other fancy stuff are just added bonuses. That’s why I make my own lip scrub at home and you can too. All you need to do is mix brown sugar, honey and olive oil together. This makes for a great nourishing lip scrub that lasts for ages. And even when it finishes, you can replenish it almost instantly. A much cheaper option that still does everything you need it to do.

Nail Polish and Ice Water

We all love to unwind, grab a cup of tea, put on a trashy show and paint our nails in peace. What we’re probably not too fond of is the time it takes for it to dry. If, like me, you suddenly find yourself in the middle of something or have to quickly rush out, it’s even more imperative the nails dry faster. That’s why having a bowl of ice water beside you while you’re painting your nails can make all the difference. Soaking your nails in this after you’re done will not only speed the drying process up but it will also set the paint. You kill two birds with one stone and nobody will be none the wiser. Give it a try!

Eyelash Curler and Hair Dryer

Having long, naturally curled eyelashes are the stuff of dreams for many women, myself included. Many of us are thankful for eyelash curlers for that very reason. However sometimes you might feel that eyelash curlers alone can be underwhelming. I’m here to tell you that all you need is a blast of your hair dryer to get those perfectly curled eyelashes. Blowing hot air on your curler just before using it will not only make it easier to curl your lashes but it’ll stay curled for longer too. The thinking behind it is the same as when you curl your hair. Heat changes the shape and pattern of your hair. The same logic applies with your eyelashes. Just make sure to wait for the eyelash curler to warm down slightly for safety reasons. Then watch your eyelashes glow up.

Homemade Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is a must-have beauty product. It makes it easier to accept not washing your hair everyday. It keeps your hair oil-free and from becoming greasy as the day goes on. Dry shampoo, much like lip scrub, can come in any shape or form. Why not just make your own, right? This can be easily achieved by mixing 1/4 cornstarch and your favourite essential oils together. All you need to do after that is massage the mixture into the roots of your hair, brush through, style as preferred and you’re good to go. It does the same job and has the same effect as branded dry shampoo. Best thing about it? It’s cheaper to sustain.

Spoon and Winged Eyeliner

Getting the perfect winged eyeliner can be very tricky most of the time. It takes a lot of practice to nail it and even then you’re probably going to have a few hiccups along the way. You can put a stop to all that today by just including an old spoon to your winged liner routine. Simply place the spoon at your eye’s corner, hold it steady and follow the outline. This should give you the perfect winged look without all the fuss and wasted time. Win-win situation.

With that concludes our 5 hacks to make your beauty routine easier, faster and cheaper. Try them today and see what each one does for you – life may just change for the better!
