It was a night of celebrations at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, where Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson hosted the 2016 BET Awards.
The show kicked off with a surprising appearance by Beyoncé performing ‘Freedom‘ with Kendrick Lamar. The ceremony then went on honouring the African-American community.
Drake was one of the big winners of the night, taking home Best Male Hip Hop and Best Group with Future, while Beyoncé‘s mother Tina went on stage to collect one of her five awards, the Video of the Year Award for ‘Formation‘, since she had to leave immediately after the performance to catch a flight to Europe for her ‘Formation World Tour‘.
Actor Jesse Williams received the Humanitarian Award and gave a powerful speech about civil rights.
More highlights of the night included the tributes to Muhammad Ali and Prince. Not one, but several artists such as Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder, Tori Kelly, Jennifer Hudson and Janelle Monae, delivered amazing performances dedicated to the late singer.
And last but not least, the fashion. Celebrities dazzled on the red carpet in sheer and shiny details.
