Today marks 20 years since legendary and iconic Britpop group Oasis headlined 2 shows in Knebworth, Hertfordshire making it their biggest concert of their career.
On the 10th of August 1996, Oasis were described and also liked to describe themselves as the biggest band in the world, well, at least in Britain they were and these 2 dates in Knebworth confirmed their undeniably iconic status.
It is said that 120,000 people attended the show including celebrities with the likes of Kate Moss and many others and 1 in 5 Britons tried to get hold of a £22.50 ticket (Yes, shows seem cheaper at the time!).
Support acts including Prodigy, Cast, Manic Street Preachers and many others shared the stage with Oasis.
It is no wonder that 20 years on, this show has not been forgotten and even if Liam Gallagher says he can hardly remember that night (probably for drinking reasons?), we certainly haven’t. Brother Noel Gallagher appeared on stage that night shouting at the crowd that this was going ‘to make history’ and it certainly did.
Oasis had already released 2 albums at the time and their third critically acclaimed LP ‘Be here now’ saw its release a year after this headline confirming the band’s success.
Fashionwise, what may be remembered from that show is that there was a lot of Kappa, Umbro, Nike and Parkas going on, it was definitely the 90’s!
